Entrepreneur Rambles

I’m reading the lean startup by Eric Ries and Linchpin by Seth Godin and they got me thinking about this influx of entrepreneurs in the world. There are obviously good and bad results from this.

Good: more competition and innovation. Bad: I don’t think everyone understands the consequences and risk that go into starting a business (not a personal knock on anyone just an assumption based on growth in numbers).

I think one negative result stems from ego. A person might feel more accomplished building something from the ground up instead of assisting an already established entity in further growth; personally I’ve met a lot of people in my life who think “9-5” is beneath them and that always rubbed me the wrong way.

There may be a misconception among younger entrepreneurs that one can only be innovative in something new or untested and are ignoring opportunities at larger firms. This may hold them back because the right job might offer them the opportunity to be innovative and help a mature company reach another growth stage.

Anyway, sorry for speaking in generalizations. These were just some thoughts I had while reading.
